・After the Shimabara-Amakusa Rebellion, Christians disappeared from the Shimabara Peninsula. In 1902, however, missionary work started again.
・In 1932, Shimabara Ninomaru Church was established, separately from the Isahaya parish.
・In 1997, the 400th year since the martyrdom of the 26 saints of Japan, Shimabara Ninomaru Church was newly renovated as the “Memorial Church to Martyrdom at Shimabara.”
・On the premises of the church stands a statue of Father Nakaura Jurião, who was a member of the Tensho embassy to Europe and traveled around Kyushu to visit followers during the period of the ban on Christianity, with Kuchinotsu Town as his base.
