Site of St. Domingo Church

・In 1609, a church was erected by Dominican Father Francisco de Morales.
・It is well known that when Father Morales was ordered to leave Satsuma, where he was conducting missionary work, he took the Church of Our Lady of the Rosary apart and moved it to St. Domingo Church.
・Under the anti-Christian edicts of 1612 and 1613, the church was demolished in 1614, five years after its construction.
・On the site of the church, the house of the Nagasaki Magistrate Suetsugu Heizo was built.
・Today, the house of the Nagasaki Magistrate serves as a museum, in which various remnants from the days of the church and the Magistrate’s house found from remains of the church are on public display.
