・The two gravestones found in the bush in farmland were designated as cultural properties designated by Nagasaki Prefecture in 1927. One is a semicylindrical stone lid-type with a flower-cross design, and the other is a cradle-shaped stone lid-type with no inscription or design. The semicylindrical gravestone with an inscription of the year “1604” is considered to be the oldest coffin-type gravestone still existing in Japan.
・When environmental development was conducted in 1979, another two cradle-shaped, stone, lid-type gravestones, both of which have no inscription, were unearthed from the ground. They were also added to a list of cultural properties designated by the prefecture on July 27 of the same year.
・Considering the fact that multiple gravestones have been discovered, it is supposed that prior to the Shimabara-Amakusa Rebellion, there was a public cemetery for Christians in this area.
