・In 1582, Nakaura Jurião traveled to Europe as a member of the embassy, received a hearty welcome in various countries and was granted an audience with the Pope in Rome.
・After returning to Japan in 1591, he had an audience with Toyotomi Hideyoshi at Jurakudai, an office and official residence of Hideyoshi in Kyoto, and performed Western music in front of Hideyoshi.
・Later, Jurião joined the Society of Jesus and studied in Macau. After that, he actively engaged in missionary work in Japan where Christianity had been prohibited, but he was caught and martyred for his faith in Nishizaka, Nagasaki in 1633.
・The area designated as “Tachi” (the site of the lord) in Nakaura Minamigo, Saikai Town, Saikai City has been considered to be the birthplace of Nakaura Jurião, a member of the Tensho embassy to Europe, and has now become his memorial park.
・The museum situated in the park features the display of wall paintings depicting the life of Jurião and related materials.
