Nagasaki Museum of History and Culture

・Built on the site of the Nagasaki Magistrate’s Office, this museum is dedicated to Nagasaki’s history of international exchange in the early modern period.
・In the History and Culture Exhibition Zone (permanent exhibition), visitors can learn about nanban boeki (trade with Spain and Portugal) and Christian missions in Japan through the nanban byobu (folding screens) and other exhibits. In addition, this zone introduces trade with the Netherlands and China, exchange with Korea, the life of people in Nagasaki, and culture unique to Nagasaki.
・The museum provides visitors, from children to adults, with hands-on experience, including picture taking in a contemporary setting and work at a printing house.
・Part of the Nagasaki Magistrate’s Office has been faithfully reconstructed based on historical materials, introducing the roles and functions of the Magistrate’s Office and exhibiting Christianity-related materials. Various events, including short plays, are also held. Visitors can catch a glimpse of Nagasaki’s history while enjoying themselves.
