Maruoyama

Maruoyama is a small hill sitting amid terraced rice fields in Kasuga Village, on top of which there is a small stone shrine called “Maruo-sama.” It is said that the small shrine was built to console the spirits of the dead who perished in shipwrecks off Kasuga, and the site was considered an important place by local residents. Excavation research has uncovered rectangular remnants positioned in line on the hillsides of Maruoyama, thus indicating that the site was a graveyard with crosses in the Christian Era.
