Christian gravestone (semicylindrical)

・This gravestone is in the style of an itahi (board monument), and was created by cutting stone thoroughly into shape. It is supposed that this gravestone was created for a Christian during the heyday of Christianity in the early 17th century. It only bears the inscription of a cross. It is said that the stone was from the Shimabara Peninsula and was processed by a stonemason in Yushima or Amakusa.
・This gravestone had been placed in the Omatsu Cemetery near the Port of Yushima, but it was moved to its present location for preservation in 1973.
