At the time of Goto Kuzure (large-scale arrests of Christians in the Goto Islands), those who were found to be Christians in Miiraku were tortured at the magistrate’s office and imprisoned in a tentative jail, for which the house of a Christian living in the Take area of Miiraku was used. On the site of Miiraku Jail now stands a monument honoring the great virtue of the ancestors who had kept their faith.
