Goto John, from the Goto Islands, was one of the 26 saints executed in Nishizaka. He was arrested in Osaka and became a Jesuit priest at the church of San Lazaro Hospital in Urakami immediately before his execution. A statue of the 19-year-old John, who died in martyrdom for faith, was erected in 1977.
