At the time of Goto Kuzure (large-scale arrests of Christians in the Goto Islands), Christians in Mizunoura were imprisoned in the house of Mizuura Kyusaburo, a Christian who served as “Chokata” (the person in charge of administering the observance of the liturgical calendar). Since Mizuura Kyusaburo, together with other followers, was arrested on Christmas night but refused to renounce his faith, his house was used as a temporary jail. Christians in Kusuhara, Himeshima, and Uchiori were also thrown into the temporary jail.
