• Arikawa in the town of Shinkamigoto has a history of prosperity in the whaling industry during the Edo Period.
• The first floor of the museum is divided into four zones, under the themes of “Whaling,” “World heritage,” “Church architecture of Yosuke Tetsukawa,” and “Japanese heritage.”
• In the Whaling Zone, visitors can see animations and drawings depicting whale hunting in Arikawa Bay. A wide variety of exhibits include knives and harpoons used during the traditional whaling period, and the skeleton preparations of a minke whale.
• The World Heritage Zone displays panels introducing World Heritage Sites related to Hidden Christians.
• The Church Architecture of Yosuke Tetsukawa Zone exhibits handwritten design drawings for a church by Yosuke Tetsukawa, an architect and expert carpenter from Maruogo, Shinkamigoto Town, and his carpenter tools, which are a collection unique to this museum.
• Other exhibitions include pieces of stained glass actually used for a church and church-related tools.
• The Japanese Heritage Zone displays panels that introduce envoys to Tang Dynasty China; Sannozan, which is a mountain of worship related to Denkyo Daishi Saicho; and Hinoshima Stone Pagodas, which feature stone pagodas built in medieval times.
