Site of the house where a sacred icon of Saint Michael was stored by Hidden Christians

This is the site of the house where a sacred icon of Saint Michael, which had been crafted in the early stages of the ban on Christianity, was kept by Hidden Christians. In 1867, Hidden Christians were divided as to whether they should return to the Catholic Church, culminating in a confrontation over which group should keep the icon (an incident known as the “Nonaka Tumult”). The icon of Saint Michael served as a trigger for the tumult.
