In 1881, after the lifting of the ban on Christianity, the first church was erected in Funamori Village, marking the end of the Hidden Christians’ hiding. In the wake of the abandonment of Funamori Village in 1966, Setowaki Church was closed. The priest’s house adjacent to the church was moved to Ojika Main Island, and is still in use as the Catholic Ojika Church.
