Site of a residence of a leader of Hidden Christianity (the original Nokubi Church)

This is the site of a residence of a leader (“Mizukata,” who performed baptisms) of Hidden Christians who were living in Nokubi Village. It is thought that various events based on the Hidden Christians’ faith were held at the residence. In 1882, after the lifting of the ban on Christianity, the first church was erected in the village, marking the end of Hidden Christians’ hiding.
