Site of a residence of a leader of Hidden Christians (Former Nokubi Church)

This is the site of a residence of a leader (“Chokata,” who administered the observance of the liturgical calendar) of Hidden Christians who settled in Nokubi Village. In 1908, much later after the lifting of the ban on Christianity in the Meiji Era, the third Nokubi Church (currently, the Former Nokubi Church) was erected on the east side of the premises.
