This is the site of the Shitsu Magistrate’s Office that administered Shitsu Village and the house of the Shitsu Village headman (in the precincts of the Former Shitsu Aid Centre). In 1872, government officials from the Shitsu Magistrate’s Office investigated the religious beliefs of the villagers, but gave them tacit approval to follow Christianity if they paid their taxes without delay. The village headmen were also Hidden Christians, and “Inassho-sama,” an icon of their secret faith, was stored in their house for generations.
