Sanjo Castle became the base of Omura Sumitada in 1564. In 1572, the castle was surrounded by three enemies: Goto (the lord of Takeo), Matsura (the lord of Hirado), and Saigo (the lord of Isahaya). However, Sumitada, together with a small number of his vassals, fought a fierce battle and defended the castle until the last. This battle was known as “Sanjo Nanaki Komori.”
