野崎島の集落跡

19世紀以降に潜伏キリシタンが神道の聖地へと移住することにより、自らのかたちで信仰を続けた集落の遺跡である。外海地域から海を渡った潜伏キリシタンは、五島列島一円から崇敬を集めていた沖ノ神嶋神社の神官と氏子の居住地のほかは未開拓地となっていた野崎島の中央部と南部の2箇所に移住し、神社の氏子となることにより在来の神道への信仰を装いながら指導者を置き、自らの信仰を続けた。解禁後はカトリックへと復帰し、2つの集落のそれぞれに教会堂を建て、その伝統は終わりを迎えた。

Designed and constructed by Tetsukawa Yosuke. Finished in 1908.

Remains of Nokubi village

Nokubi village was located in the centre of Nozaki island, and today the remains of former houses and traces of disused farmland can still be seen there, as well as Former Nokubi church. A trail which the village’s inhabitants made is also visible.

Remains of Funamori village

Located on the southern tip of Nozaki island, Funamori village consists of the remains of houses, disused farmland, a cemetery, the remains of an old wooden church (which was known as Setowaki Church) and an old trail.
